Just a few weeks remain in the Dallas Mavericks’ seemingly never-ending offseason until training camp opens, and fans are eager to see how the team can contend in a loaded Western Conference following an epic run to the NBA Finals the previous season.
Dallas’s future remains bright, despite their five-game loss to the Boston Celtics.
In front of all eyes, Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving transformed into one of the NBA’s top tandems, while the supporting cast members demonstrated their ability to work well together.
P.J. Washington was a different player once the playoffs began, and Dereck Lively II also had some incredible performances. Kevin Durant makes references to two Mavericks players he would want to work with. Nico Harrison did a fantastic job of assembling this squad around Irving and Doncic, and he took the required actions this summer to guarantee that they will have a strong chance of making it back to the Finals the following year.
Three-point shooting was one of Dallas’ main problems in the Finals, but that problem will be long gone now that Klay Thompson was signed by the Mavs to a three-year contract early in the offseason. Doncic and Irving will find Thompson to be a great offensive complement, and Dallas has taken a few steps to guarantee that their defense will always be among the best.
Dallas acquired Quentin Grimes and signed Naji Marshall; both players are probably going to be the team’s top two perimeter defenders out of the gate. In Dallas’ system, players like Grimes and Marshall flourish. If they can fulfill their duties well, they have the potential to be very vital members of the Mavs team.
The Mavericks club has garnered significant attention from other NBA teams. Recently, Kevin Durant complimented two Dallas players during an appearance on the “Boardroom” program. Durant put together the “ideal” NBA 2K starting five, which included two Mavs players.
Although NBA 2K is simply a computer game, Durant’s inclusion of two Mavs players in his ideal starting lineup may indicate that he hopes to work with these players in the future.
