Hair loss is a common experience that many people encounter at some point in their lives, often as a result of not taking proper care of their hair at some point. When this situation starts popping up, individuals find themselves searching for effective and quick solutions. In this article, I will share my personal journey with hair loss and the strategies I employed to not only regain my hair, but to achieve even more and tick growth than before.

Again, I’ll detail the circumstances that led to my hair loss, the emotional impact it had on me, and the step-by-step approach I took to solve the problem. By sharing my experiences and the methods that worked for me, I hope to provide valuable insights and potential solutions for others who may be struggling with similar hair loss concerns.

About 10 years ago, I decided it was time to lose weight. I gave up soda in exchange for water. It didn’t take long I was losing weight like crazy, I did not change my diet, I wasn’t even exercising for the first several months. Anyway, not only was I losing weight, I was shedding like crazy. My shedding had continued on for all these years, my formerly massively thick dread locks have thinned so much! I was in panic mode, thinking if I lose one more hair, I’d be bald! I could feel bare spots on my scalp every time I ran my fingers through my hair. Furthermore, I even took pictures off the top of my head, and could see how thin it really was.

Over the years, I tried all kinds of things. I bought tons of supplements, went around reading “hair, nails and skin” supplements, researched all these special things that you just don’t find in a multi vitamin and purchased all of them in much larger dosages! I also took a multi vitamin, I was taking 33 supplements 3 times a day for over a year. It didn’t help!

I switched to sulfate free shampoo and paraben free conditioner. It didn’t help! I tried every oil out there, including making my own onion oil. It didn’t help! I tried eating healthier, I made a point to eat lots of protein. It didn’t help! I was already exercising, but since it promotes blood flow, I added more exercises, it didn’t help! I was doing inversion and scalp massages, this didn’t help either! Rinsing my hair in cold water, egg hair masks… These didn’t help either. I started eating yogurt with chia and flaxseed, this did not help either!

While, I say that none of these things helped, I won’t lie; I was convincing myself that they were, every time I ran my fingers over my scalp and I could feel new growth, it had to be because of this or that!

After all these years and all these trials and errors trying to correct my thinning hair. I am going to have to attribute two things for the final correction. First off, I drink much less water now. I am aware that too much water flushes nutrients out of our system. But I won’t swear that drinking much less water is what has got me barely losing 20 hairs a day. The other thing I believe comes into play is; I no longer shampoo my hair with shampoo. Instead, I opted for a paraben, sulfate, silicone free body wash, which contains oils (much like the ones I had used for years in hope of reviving my hair growth). I do still use regular paraben free, silicone free conditioner on my hair though. And I wash my hair 5 days a week, believe it or not.

I cannot promise that this will work for you, but hey a $9 body wash that you can use for a few months; is a lot cheaper than those promoted (paid to push) shampoos. If you drink a lot of water, try to cut it down to no more than the suggested 8 glasses a day. If your diet isn’t that great, adjust it a bit. If you don’t get much exercise, go on walks.

I can’t tell you for certain that it is one thing in particular that has finally corrected my shedding . I believe it’s the combination of less water, the body wash and all the excess walking. However, I can tell you while my hair is still much thinner than I would like, I no longer have a bare spot on my scalp (yes I still take pictures of the top of my head), I have a pretty fuzzy scalp. I am no longer covered in hair when I step out of the shower after washing my hair, most of the hair in my hairbrush is from ripping tangles out, and still it’s not a lot! I would say my shedding issue has pretty much ceased to exist over the past 6 months.

There are several reasons for hair loss. We need to stay healthy and eat healthy. Scalp nourishment is important. The scalp moisture will come from the food we take. When shampooing I just prefer toxic free shampoos which has no SLS, parabens and sulfates. Oiling hair was good to maintain scalp nourishment. Oiling hair at least twice a week. I prefer overnight oiling my hair. When I apply hair, I massage it gently on the scalp. I do prefer an oil which was homemade.

For making homemade oil, take 1 spoon Methi seeds and soak it overnight, aloe vera(1 cup chopped), flax seeds(1tbsp), bringaraj leaves(1 cup), tulasi leaves(1 cup), Brahmi leaves(1 cup), curry leaves(1 cup), hibiscus leaves(1 cup), dried red colored hibiscus(1 cup), henna leaves(1 cup), amla(2 or 1/2 cup soaked dried amla), 1 onion. Make all this into paste. Take 1 liter coconut oil into kadai and add the paste made into the oil and start boiling the oil in the low flame. Make sure the paste should be added into coconut oil before start boiling the paste. After 30 mins, the paste will get absorbed into the oil and the rest starts floating above. After all the mix started floating, turn off the flame and filter the oil.

Before applying the oil to my scalp, I will heat the oil lightly, and I will add vitamin E oil into it. Then I will start applying the oil to my scalp. I will keep it overnight and wash the hair with mild toxic free shampoo. I will also use shampoo powder made with sheekakai, amla, rita in 1:1:1 ratio. This will also help to remove the dandruff. When I was sweat and hair turning greasy, I wash my hair with normal water without shampooing it. I will shampoo 2–3 times a week. Regular exercise and stress-free lifestyle is important. Make sure to avoid maximum amount of pollution. Little changes in our regular regime will chance our hair loss slowly.
