Marko Issues Warning to McLaren After Red Bull’s Strong Showing

Red Bull advisor Helmut Marko has cautioned McLaren, signaling that Red Bull is back at the top and ready to compete fiercely, despite missing out on pole at the United States Grand Prix. Max Verstappen narrowly lost out to Lando Norris by a mere 0.031 seconds in a thrilling qualifying session at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA). Nevertheless, Red Bull showcased their strength throughout the weekend, with Verstappen converting sprint pole into his 11th sprint victory earlier on Saturday.

Marko’s warning to McLaren comes as both teams continue to battle for supremacy in the latter half of the season. McLaren’s Lando Norris capitalized on the chaotic conclusion of qualifying, taking pole after Verstappen’s final lap was compromised by a crash from Mercedes driver George Russell. Verstappen had been on pace to surpass Norris, setting the fastest first sector on his last attempt, but double-waved yellow flags in the final corners forced him to abandon the lap.

Despite missing out on pole, Verstappen and Red Bull remain confident. Marko stressed that Red Bull’s performance proves they are still the team to beat. “We’re competing again,” Marko stated, implying that the Milton Keynes squad is well-positioned to mount a comeback on Sunday.

Starting from the front row, Verstappen will aim to take the fight to Norris in the race. Given Red Bull’s competitive long-run pace and Verstappen’s consistency, the Dutchman is well-equipped to challenge for his next victory. As the battle between Red Bull and McLaren intensifies, the Austin showdown promises an exciting contest, with strategy, tire management, and racecraft likely to play pivotal roles.
